Garrett Memorial Christian School is and will continue to monitor the latest updates regarding the corona virus.  No cases of the virus have been documented in Hempstead, Nevada, or Lafayette County.

School will continue to meet as scheduled for the remainder of the year but will reevaluate the situation regularly, in conjunction with the Arkansas Department of Health. Field trips and athletic events currently scheduled will continue as planned unless otherwise notified.

GMCS has a cleaning plan in place to provide regular and routine cleaning throughout the school day, particularly high contact areas. Every disinfectant currently has been confirmed from the manufacturers to be effective in killing and eliminating the corona virus. The procedures for disinfecting are the same as any other virus, such as MRSA, influenza and H1N1. The school is stocked and prepared to provide any additional cleaning to our buses and facilities as needed.

Health officials advise the steps you take to prevent the spread of the common cold and flu will also help prevent corona virus.  As with all precautionary measures, students and staff should frequently and thoroughly wash their hands and avoid touching their faces as much as possible. In addition, it is required that parents keep their child at home if he or she has a fever of 100 degrees or higher and to keep them at home until they are fever free and symptom free for 24 hours without medication.

Currently, the only threat GMCS is experiencing is influenza.  Please follow the same procedures listed above regarding your student.
